Testimonies From Beneficiaries
State House water Drip-irrigation Demonstration Farm Flourishes.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni toured the Kawumu State House Farm in nakaseke district that was a special place in the protracted struggle against bad governance that brought NRM into power. The President was proud to be back in kawumu as He now focused on the struggle against poverty and ensure increased income for Ugandan households.
In October 2016, the President started a demonstration Farm to put in practice what He has been talking about as the four-acre model. At that specific time, we were experiencing an extended drought that encouraged Him to teach the general public about adapting some rudimentary methods such as “Drip Irrigation” the using of plastic water bottles to keep crops alive and energetic. Some people took the Presidents advice, and they surely benefited, while others laughed. Sixteen (16) months later with the consistent drip water bottle irrigation, the Farm is yielding grate results.
They are now harvesting tomatoes, passion fruits, mushrooms, pineapples and matooke along side fish, chicken and dairy products. The coffee too is flowering at 12 months instead of the usual 18 months because they survived the first stages on drip irrigation. So there is no question about the ability to improve household income when we employ and use basic measures such as this. The neighboring homesteads we visited organised under the kawumu village Sacco seemed to be catching up and should be emulated countrywide. The President was happy and glad to meet people that had started moving from urban centers back to the villages to engage in gainful agriculture with the support and guidance of operation wealth creation.
